Megzz Wins At Life

Closing the blog

March 1, 2010 · 21 Comments

Hi Friends,

How was everyone’s weekend? Mine was great! The formal was a lot of fun! It was at Cipriani on Wall Street. It was a gorgeous venue and a lot of fun!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
On another note I would like to talk about something I am sad to announce.. I am going to eliminate my from my life. My last post will be the recap of my half marathon…
Unfortunately  blogging has opened up a viscous cycle for me.  Before blogging I was your average 24 year old whom loved to cook delicious meals and exercise. I then started to run and decided to start the blog to track my running journey. I never considered myself as having an eating disorder but with all of the blogs bringing awareness in order of NEDA last week I realized in fact I have an eating disorder.. I am a compulsive over-eater. After reading Michele’s post on the subject and answering the quiz I realized I am faced with this issue every single day.  She posted this quiz on her website.
Welcome to Overeaters Anonymous. This series of questions may help you determine if you are a compulsive eater.
  1. Do you eat when you’re not hungry? –YES
  2. Do you go on eating binges for no apparent reason? –YES
  3. Do you have feelings of guilt and remorse after overeating? –YES
  4. Do you give too much time and thought to food? –YES
  5. Do you look forward with pleasure and anticipation to the time when you can eat alone? –YES
  6. Do you plan these secret binges ahead of time? –SOMETIMES
  7. Do you eat sensibly before others and make up for it alone? –YES
  8. Is your weight affecting the way you live your life? –YES
  9. Have you tried to diet for a week (or longer), only to fall short of your goal? –YES
  10. Do you resent others telling you to “use a little willpower” to stop overeating? –NO
  11. Despite evidence to the contrary, have you continued to assert that you can diet “on your own” whenever you wish? –YES
  12. Do you crave to eat at a definite time, day or night, other than mealtime? –YES
  13. Do you eat to escape from worries or trouble? –YES
  14. Have you ever been treated for obesity or a food-related condition? –NO
  15. Does your eating behavior make you or others unhappy? –YES
Have you answered yes to three or more of these questions? If so, it is probable that you have or are well on your way to having a compulsive eating problem.
I was really bothered by this conclusion and had it on my mind all weekend. It was not until I was laying in Christian’s bed on Saturday morning that I realized this all started when I started the blog. The blog has caused me to obsess over food and think about what I can and can not have with the feeling I might be judged in the blog world. These feelings of deprivation then cause me to binge and so on.. As a results I have gained close to 10 pounds and not been “myself”.
Please don’t get me wrong.. I have enjoyed blogging VERY much and met some AMAZING people along the way.. There are A LOT of benefits to blogging but for ME the negatives are out-weighing the positives.
I want to thank all of my amazing readers for your support and kind words along the way.. You all are amazing.. Please feel free to contact me via e-mail megzzwins@live.com as I would love to keep in contact with you all.  I also am keeping my twitter account so add me :-)
Best of Luck in all of your journey’s..
Love,
Megan
YEAH MON
February 26, 2010 · 4 Comments
When I finally arrived at Central Park (I work right next to it) it looked like this beauty..
But the trug there wasn’t such a beauty..
The buses weren’t running and Hoboken looked like this..
Therefore, I had to walk the half of mile in the snow to the PATH train.. It was actually quit comical seeing all the people walking in the middle of the street because the sidewalks weren’t shoveled.
I did manage to stop at CVS aka my favorite store ever and pick up mascara for Christian’s Formal tonight :-) but more on that later..
I hopped on a sardine packed PATH train followed by a sardine packed R train.
Yes, when it snows everyone is expected to come to work because of mass transit.. therefore mass transit is packed, smelly and wet.
Because of the snow and my old age.. hence my back pain.. I skipped the gym again.. ahh I need a long run this weekend or I might be dragging myself across the finish line next weekend..
Dinner was Chu Chu’s and Pizza on a Flat Out wrap.
Yes I realize this pizza is super lame but you drag yourself out to get the essentials for a banging Pizza in a snow storm! :-)
As I mentioned yesterday I was so repeating my lunch from the day before.. Laughing Cow Grilled Cheese and Pop Chips instead of an ensalada.
Breakfast was a staple in any diet.. Oatmeal, Banana and Cinnamon.. YEAH MON.
*Note to self: Watch Cool Runnings in the near future* What a classic huh?
As much as I wished Cool Runnings was included in my breakfast it really just looked like this.. Just as enjoyable though!
Tonight I Have Christian’s Formal.. I am really excited to get dressed up and go out and have a good time! I hope the snow doesn’t ruin it!
Have a nice weekend!
On a _____ note..
February 25, 2010 · 5 Comments
Guess what New York City has more of today???
SNOW!!!
It doesn’t quit look like this yet.. but I thought this picture was purdy..
It is actually really messy at this point and gross…
On a positive note.. I am leaving for Florida in one week!! I hope the weather warms up there and I can at least lay by the pool for one day!
On a negative note.. I hurt my back on Monday.. It had been bothering me for 3 days and I haven’t ran as a result.. I think I am finally going to fold and see a doctor today in case it is something serious. The pain runs on my right side from the middle of the back of my leg all the way up the middle of my back..
On a positive note.. I had a killer breakfast yesterday.. 1 packet oatmeal, 1 cup of apples and cinnamon. I swear cinnamon makes  everything 100 times better!
On a negative note.. I was at work when I ate it.. being at work was the negative part..
On a positive note.. I made the most amazing grilled cheese ever! Sometimes the simple things are the best! Two slices of weight watchers whole wheat bread with a wedge of laughing cow cheese in-between and then popped in toaster oven. Better than any grilled cheese I have ever had at any Diner.
Also I had my usual salad.
On a negative note.. You might just see the same lunch today because it was THAT good.. and I have been dreaming about my grilled cheese all night!
On  a positive note.. I got a mani/pedi after work today!
*Yes I am Irish.. well almost 50% and that is why I wear my claddagh ring with pride*
On a negative note.. My fingers look awfully long and gross and I am embarrassed to put this picture up.
On a positive note.. I had my homemade soup I made last week for dinner..
Megan’s Mooosh Soup
  • 1 can of tomato sauce
  • 1 can of chopped tomatoes’
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil
  • 1 small can of tomato paste
  • 2 cups of chopped celery
  • 2 cups of chopped carrots
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 1/2 cup corn
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of sugar for taste
Combine all ingredients and put in slow cooker for 3-4 hours.
Basically it is super easy and healthy and taste really good!
On a negative note.. It didn’t fill me up very long so being the beast that I am I was invading the cabinets an hour later..  I  had a cup of trader joe’s popcorn.. followed by a sugar-free jello with fat-free cool whip!
Questions
  1. What is your heritage??- I am 50% Italian, 48.6% Irish and 2.4% Cherokee Indian.. I personally think the fact I am part Cherokee Indian is pretty cool. My mom has a picture of her great great grandmother dressed in her headpiece and as scary as she looks I think it is preetayyy sweeeet!
  2. What are your must running songs?- I started working on my half running songs and I need some ideas :-)
Have a nice day!
Love,
Megan
Taste the Difference
February 24, 2010 · 4 Comments
Look what I got today!!!!
Isn’t she a beauty??
I started my day the same exact way I started it the day before.. minus the  bad day-ness.
Honey Nut Cheerios and Fat Free Milk
Followed by a sunshine orange as my mid-morning snack
Lunch was one cup of Pacific Tomato Soup and a bag of Original Pop Chips
My afternoon snack was an apple.
I spot someone blog in the background :-)
After work Christian and I headed to The Lite Choice for the taste the difference tour. But more on that later..
After our fabulous tour we headed to the Seinfeld Diner.. Do you recognize it??
I had a Turkey Burger and French Fries (which I shared with Christian)
Of course I added a ton of ketchup because I am one of those people who has their ketchup with their ketchup…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The Lite Choice- Taste the Difference Tour

After seeing The Lite Choice pop up on Missy’s blog I was so excited when Claudia, the Director of Operations invited me in for a tour.

Christian and I headed up to the 95th and Broadway location to see what The Lite Choice was all about.. From their website:

“The finest ingredients

We begin with our own 100% all-natural soft-serve, made from the finest natural ingredients and farm fresh dairy. Our soft serve is low-fat, low carb, lower calorie. There’s NO corn syrup, artificial additives, or preservatives. Our original or chocolate soft serve is blended with all natural and certified organic flavors to create any flavor anytime! We’ve created flavor groupings from 80-120 calories per serving, since some flavors may change the nutritional facts slightly. Check our nutritional chart for more information!”

We started the tour with a chocolate and coconut protein shake. All shakes are made with their delicious soft serve and their low-fat TLC milk.
They are available also in a variety of flavors including 50 Organic and All natural flavors.

We tried chocolate and coconut! Both were delicious and I am pretty sure Christian drank the entire coconut.

They also have over 70 any flavor anytime flavors made within 60 seconds.

We tried the Chocolate Covered Strawberry flavor which they featured for Valentine’s Day!

It was so good.. The mixture between the chocolate and strawberry was perfect!

Last we tried a sundae! They layer there Sundaes like a parfait so you get the mixture of hot-fudge and ice cream in each bite.. mm mmm good!!

They also have a variety of take home items and cakes.

All cakes are made with one layer of TLC Chocolate, one layer of TLC Vanilla with Chocolate Cookie Crunch in the center. Customized cakes, flavors and decorations are also available.

Overall I thought The Lite Choice was really good and is a fabulous healthy treat! Make sure you follow The Lite Choice on Twitter because they are always giving away coupons. The Lite Choice has locations in New York and New Jersey so check and see if there is a location by you!

Thank You Claudia and The Lite Choice for a great evening :-)

What a day..

February 23, 2010 · 9 Comments

Hey Blogettes,

Ever have one of those days when nothing goes right?? That was my day yesterday.. but before we get into that lets see what I ate for breakfast!

2/3 c. of Honey Nut Cheerios with Skim Milk..

I know a lot of bloggers make these wonderful cereal creations but yesterday I wanted cereal and milk and since we are unique and different I went with it..

Part of the problem of eating cereal and milk for breakfast is it doesn’t fill you up as much as oatmeal or yogurt.

My mid-morning snack was an orange.

You would think the sun of orange slices would have made my day fantastic but it was just the opposite.. I don’t go into details about work on here but lets just say my job got a lot worse at this point.. More taste, more annoyingness, no more pay.. booo

Lunch was a salad filled to the brim with lots of delicious veggies: brocoli, Green Peas, Shredded Carrots, Cucumber, Red & Green Peppers, balsamic vinegar and 1 tsp oil.

I also had a Whole Wheat Light Thomas’ English Muffin with 1 Tablespoon of Strawberry Preserves on the side.

My afternoon snack was 7 Kashi Seven Grain Crackers and a triangle of Laugh Cow Cheese

So after work I hopped on the Subway and swiped my Metrocard.. Since I was home for the weekend I had a huge Vera Bradley bag full of stuff, a computer case and my purse.. So clearly not only did I look like  a bag lady I walked crooked because everything was so heavy. I clearly looked crazy and perhaps something like this..

I then made it to the bus in Port Authority when I got yelled at on the bus because my HUGE bag was sticking out.. Where else is someone suppose to put their bag when they also have a computer and a purse on their lap.. I stuck it on the floor and tried to shove it as far under the seat as possible.. This guy told me my bag was sticking out in his “standing area“. At this point I offered my seat to him and offered to stand and he said “forget about it”. The rest of the ride I listened to my I pod and looked at the floor.

When I got home I quickly through my stuff on my bed and changed into my workout clothes. I opened my purse to grab my debit card so I could quickly go to the grocery store after the gym and get the essentials for the week. At this point I realized my wallet was missing.. In a panic I tour apart my huge bag and still no purse.. My mom finally calmed me down and told me it was probably at work.. At this point the gym was long gone and I was starving.. I grabbed a fruit leather bar and made myself a Smart Ones Dinner..

I rarely eat Smart Ones but I do have them in my freezer for situations like this when I just don’t want to cook and I am looking for a quick and easy dinner.

For the rest of the night I watched TV and moped around..

Today is a new day and I am determined not to let yesterday get me down..

Yesterday I ordered a Garmin Forerunner 305 woohooo and Compression Sleeves for my shins.. I am ready for my race :-)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I also received my first anonymous e-mail this past weekend. One reader wrote
Hi Megan,
I would like to tell you I love your blog but I would like to ask you something that I have been wanting to ask you for a while. How could you have moved away from your mom when she was so sick? You seem like such a good person and kind-hearted and it just doesn’t seem like you to move away from her especially in the condition she is in? I hope this doesn’t turn you the wrong way and I hope you have a nice day.
Sincerely,
A Reader
As I address this I would like to tell you I am not in any means upset by this comment at all as I went back a million and a half times about moving out of my parents house. I was actually supposed to move out in March 2009 but when my mom got sick I postponed my move. My parents live an hour and a half train ride from New York City and when I was living home I would wake up at 5:30 every day to catch a 6:50am train. I would then come home and walk in my house about 7pm. As you can see this is no way to live your life. There was even a time when I walked in at midnight and had to get back up 5 hours later and do it all over again. Throughout the time my mom was sick I would do this and go right to the hospital not to walk back in the house until 9-10pm and then have to pack my sister a lunch, do the dishes, laundry etc..
Finally after months and months of a roller coaster with my mom we saw some progress and that is when I decided it was time to move out. It was the hardest decision I ever had to do but I knew if I continued to commute and work these long hours I would suffer my own health as well. I moved out in November and as you can see from my post I often go home and make sure things are ok at home. I also call my mom about 10 times a day.  As hard as it is to be away from my mom it was time and I felt it was the best decision for me at the time.
Thanks,
Megan
Moving was tough and expensive but defiantly worth it in the end. I ended up paying close to $800 for a moving truck and a mover.
Upon surfing the web the other day I came upon a website for New York movers called CityMove. I wish I found this website when I moved to Hoboken. The website is Free to use and you post your job information and movers bid on you. I did some further research and their website is coming up as the best “New York Mover” around. It is actually really cool and fun how the website works. First you enter the details of your move such as where you are moving to and from. Then you enter how many items you have and what type of items you have. Next, you enter the price you are willing to pay. You can do an open bid or an hourly rate bid  depending on what you think will benefit you move. Finally, movers bid on your move and you hire them.
I also liked their review system which enables you to see the strengths and weaknesses of each of the movers, helping you to find a mover reliable enough to meet your needs.
What do you guys do when you have a bad day??
P.S. My wallet was at work  :-) WOOOHOOOO
EPIC….
February 22, 2010 · 7 Comments
Hey Friends,
Hope everyone had a great weekend. I had an epic FAIL this weekend when I forgot my camera at work on Friday. Luckily,  prince charming came to the rescue and gave me his camera.
Apparently Christian ride’s horses, got a tattoo, and carries flowers all with his eyes closed.
I ended up leaving work early on Friday because I wasn’t feeling well. I hopped in a cab and made my way to Prince Charmings’ apartment for an epic nap.. I am pretty sure I came in looking like one hot mess.. *apparently when you google hot mess this is the first photo that came up*
After a two hour nap I felt refreshed and like a new Megan! In honor of lent Christian and I headed to Little Italy for some classic pizza. Lombardi’s Pizza claims to be the first pizzeria ever so we figured it was a must. We started with a basket of bread-sticks and they were disgusting. I wish I got a picture because it was tubes of dough baked and thrown in a basket without any seasoning or garlic. My exact words where “Olive Garden’s are 100% better”. We also ordered a small cheese pizza.
I have to admit I wasn’t really impressed. The sauce tasted like fake tomatoes and it was really doughy.
After dinner Christian took me to Ferrara Bakery & Cafe. I am sure many of you had Ferrara products as they are in most major supermarkets. Ferrara DID NOT disappoint. I was in bakery heaven.. There was soo much to choose from and I could not decide. The atmosphere was so fun too! Christian said I was acting like a little kid because I was soo excited. What can I say, it is the little things that make me happy :-)
I ended up going with a hot chocolate and Strawberry Shortcake.
The cake was perfectly moist with the added fresh strawberries and cool whip I couldn’t get enough of it. I ate about half and left there in a food coma.
Prince Charming struck once again (ok I am done with the cheesiness before I end up losing you guys) and brought me a whole wheat bagel with the middle scooped out while I was showering Saturday morning.
After breakfast I hopped in a cab and headed to Penn Station.. An hour and a half train ride later I was greeted by my beautiful mom and the place I like to call home!
Mom and I immediately made some whole wheat macaroni and cheese and a salad for lunch before my mom, dad, sister and myself headed down to South Jersey to visit my aunt in the hospital.
After the hospital we stopped at a local diner and had dinner. I don’t know about you guys but I LOVE a good ol’ diner. There is something about the greasy food that just makes me happy.
Now I realize this wasn’t the healthiest dinner but it was what I wanted! I figure you only live once and you have to live a little and if a little strawberry shortcake and grilled cheese and fries makes me happy I am going to eat it with joy.
Sunday morning I had a lovely 11 mile run planned. I woke up and put on my running clothes and made myself a nice breakfast that could fuel my body for my run.
In Central Jersey we still have A LOT of snow and most of the sidewalks are still covered. I was a little nervous about my run until I remembered a 5 mile trail park that was about a 5 minute ride away. I hopped in my car and headed to the park. Boy was I surprised when the park was closed because of all the snow :-( Epic FAIL number 2 of the weekend. I headed back home to my parents house all bummed because I was not sure where or how I was going to run. THEN, I remembered my sister goes to a gym and I could be her guest. My mom and I decided to head to the mall so I could get a bathing suit for Florida and I put off my run until later. Lets just say.. I didn’t get my run in.. I am really disappointed in myself but I am not going to let this get my down. The other day on Meghann’s blog I read that doing two longer back to back runs is just as beneficial as one longer run. I did some research and there is scientific study that proves this is in fact true. I altered my plan a little bit and this is my revised training schedule up until my half.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Also look what I joined!!

Honestly just eating healthy isn’t cutting it for me right now and I think I need the structure of Weight Watchers. My mom is a lifetime member and I know many other people who have had success on the system. I will not be posting much on the POINTS system, etc but I would like you to know I am following the program and hope to drop the 10-15 pounds I have been holding on too.

WOW this was a long post..

How was your weekend?? DID you do anything fun??

Loved hearing more about you all :-)

As I mentioned in yesterday’s post, yesterday was a crazy day of work.

Breakfast was a Thomas’ English Muffin with Strawberry Preserves and a orange.

Because it was such a crazy day of work I forgot to eat my morning snack.. Who am I??

Lunch was grilled veggies and sprouts on a whole wheat wrap.. To spice it up a lil I added Laughing Cow Cheese spread to the wrap. I also had a small bag of pop chips.

After work I headed to the gym and attempted to run 5 miles on the treadmill. Right after I started running my shins started bothering me.. I made it about 1 mile and couldn’t take the pain anymore. I decided to hop off and give my shins a rest for the day. I ended up doing:

  • 1 mile run
  • 30 minutes on the spin bike
  • 20 minutes on the cross trainer (interval training)

Dinner was quick and easy. I picked up a small sweet potato at the market on my way home.. I pealed it and cut it into thin slices. I added a few spices and baked the fries at 450 degrees for 12 minutes. Along with my fries I had a veggie burger with lettuce on a Arnold’s Sandwich thin and 1/2 cup of green peas.

I really enjoyed this dinner and even saved a few fries for today.. BUT I left them at my  apartment.. ooopss..

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You all seem to want to know about my job..
I work in Finance. I work for a company that owns casino’s in Las Vegas, Atlantic City, NJ and Tunica, Mississippi. I generally assist the CFO with charts, balance sheets, etc. I also predict how well or NOT WELL lately our casino’s are going to do. I also do admin stuff such as sign off on invoices, expenses, etc.
Although I like my job and it can be fun at times ultimately this is not what I want to do. My degree was in marketing and I had always dreamed of working in Fashion. Lately my views have changed and I can see myself working more in social media marketing. So if anyone knows any jobs in NYC in social media marketing let a girl know ;-)
What are your weekend plans?
Tonight Christian and I are going to get Pizza in Little Italy..I am really excited :-)
Tomorrow I am going home to pack for Fl since it is my only free weekend before we leave! wohooo
bangs and staples
February 18, 2010 · 7 Comments
*Added* FYI I started this post at 8:26 but I have been so busy at work it is not 12:05 and I am just hitting publish..
Guess what I got today?? The items I won off Dori’s Charity Auction. Dori is running the NYC half marathon on behalf of Think Pink Rocks and I bid on the
P&G Prestige Fragrances Sampler Pack from Ashley at Healthy Happier Bear which included:
  • Flora by Gucci 2.5 oz
  • Escada Marine Groove 50mL
  • Lacoste Challenge 75mL
*Sorry for the poor quality picture.. I was trying to be sneaky at work*
I will be reviewing the perfume this weekend and let you know on Monday which I like best!
I would also like to tell you I contacted the Weehawken police department yesterday. They assured me the little boy was fine and took down my contact information. I feel so much better knowing the little boy is ok.
I started off yesterday with a bang..
Can’t go wrong with oatmeal, an apple and cinnamon warmed up in the microwave for 45 seconds.. mmm mmm good…
My morning snack was a string cheese.
Lunch was a staple in my diet.. Tomato Basil Soup and Pop Chips.
After work I rushed to the gym so I could get a workout in before mass.
I did the bike for 15 minutes, followed by 20 minutes on the cross trainer and 10 minutes on the stair-master.
I quickly changed my gross sweaty self back into my work clothes, blow-dried my sweaty hair and headed to church.
I have attended a few services here in Hoboken and have yet to find a church where I really feel at home. I knew I wanted to attend mass and get my ashes so I once again tried a new church and I think I found my new church. Mass was not only informative but not dragged out. The priest catered to the young and the church was absolutely gorgeous. The entire church was brick and had a high wooden ceiling and choral area had these huge organ pipes on both sides that lit up the entire service.
After getting my ashes I headed up and made myself a quick and easy dinner.
  • 1 cup of Trader Joe’s Organic Macaroni and Cheese
  • 1 cup of edamame
  • 1 toasted Arnold’s Sandwich Thin with a dab of butter.
Ok so maybe it wasn’t the most balanced dinner but there was Green!! I didn’t have any sauce made and given I couldn’t have meat or have time to run and get tofu this was the next best thing. I actually really enjoyed this dinner and it certainly filled me up :-)
So does anyone have any questions for me?? I am not going to officially do a ask all but I want to throw it out there if you have ANY questions please feel free to ask and I will be happy to answer. My e-mail is megzzwins@live.com
Going along with that I want to know a little more about you all:
Where are you from? How old are you? What do you do for a living?? Come on… tell all!!
backwards
February 17, 2010 · 9 Comments
Hey Sweets,
Thank you so much for all the kind words on my results. Words can not express how much I love you all!
Can I just tell you a saw the most horrific things this morning.. I was minding my minsly ol’ business listening to Rascal Flatts when I just happened to look out the window. I noticed a crossing guard on the corner chit-chatting with another women and a child standing about 10 feet from the crossing guard. He had a backpack on so it was clear he was either waiting to cross the street or waiting to catch a bus. All of the sudden I saw him waving his arms at the passing bus (which was two lanes away). The bus caught the light so the kid ran opposite the door but stayed on the sidewalk and continued to wave his hands. It was clear to me at this point the bus-driver did not see him and/ or the stupid crossing card wasn’t doing her job and was to busy talking about who knows what. The kid then proceeded to walk across two lanes and just as he took about 7 steps he got hit by a car!!!! My heart sunk and all I wanted to do was jump out of the bus and comfort him and freak out on the crossing guard. Two seconds later my bus was on it’s way there was nothing I could do. I am thinking about contacting the police department if they need a witness and to make sure that crossing guard gets fired! Should I? Should I let it go?
Since I started off on such a bad note I am going to add a positive note.. I kicked major booty on my four mile run yesterday.. I ran 4 miles in 36 minutes! This is the fastest I have ever ran. “I just kept on telling myself a little bit longer, you can do it!”. After my run I did the cross trainer for another 20 minutes.
I came home and cooked myself some dinner.
Georgie grilled lean pork with garlic, applesauce, ensalada and baby green peas.
Ok on a backwards note..
Afternoon snack was a piece of Melba toast with a wedge of laughing cow cheese.
Lunch was salad with green peas and broccoli.
Accompanied by Peanut Butter and Strawberry Preserves on Weight Watchers bread.
Morning snack was an Orange
Breakfast was 1 packet of instant oatmeal, a banana and cinnamon.
As far as refined sugar.. I am going to TRY.. I emphasize try because that is all I can do and from my research it is VERY hard.. I am giving up candy for lent.. ahhh so that is a step in the right direction.
I will end with the cutest picture EVER!! I want one!
Do you have any animals?? I don’t :-( I am not allowed in my apartment although I REALLY REALLY REALLY want a doggie!
touching base…
February 16, 2010 · 10 Comments
Wow I think it has been over a week since I posted.. I was really worried about the genetic testing I had done and didn’t feel like doing much of anything.. I did manage to keep my miles up for my half but eating wise: I binged all week.. Today is a new day and I am ready to get back on track.. I have exactly 16 days until I leave for Florida… ahh I am soo nervous for my half..
There are a few things I want to touch base on before I return to regular posting…
  1. I do not have the genetic mutation my mom has. I slightly mentioned it here. Basically my mom has a genetic disease called hereditary nonpolyposis colorectal cancer which is also known as Lynch Syndrome. It is a rare inherited condition that increases your risk of colon cancer and other cancers. It is passed down through generations and myself, my brother and sister all have a 50% chance of having the genetic disease. If tested positive we have to go through extensive testing every year. So far I was the only one tested out of my siblings and as I mentioned I do not have the mutation. As happy as I am that I don’t have the mutation I am still worried about my brother and sister. I would feel guilty if I don’t have it and one or both of them do. It is hard enough my mother has it let alone if one of my siblings also has it.
  2. I am thinking of completely cutting refined sugar out of my diet until to jump start my weight loss. To be honest I am having a very difficult time losing the weight recently. Has anyone ever done this before? Have you had success?
  3. I ran 10 miles on Saturday.. Can you believe it ten miles?? I couldn’t believe it… It was a very boring run considering Hoboken is 1 mile square.. but I managed to complete the 10 miles in 2 hours and 2 minutes.. I also had to take a few walking breaks because people dind’t shovel there sidewalks and there was sheets of ice… I was exhausted after and felt like I was dying but eventually I got my strength back and just felt plain ol’ hungry.
I completed this run…
I will end with some pictures from my Valentine’s Day with Christian.. We went to brunch at the little owl in the West Village and then walked around Central Park for a while, then we went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. After the MET we headed to Union Square to a restaurant called The House and had a romantic dinner. We ended the night by seeing the movie Valentin’s Day. I really liked the movie :-)
Me in Central Park with the three bears..
The MET
Christian being mean and not letting me take a picture.
Me at dinner..
Well I hope everyone has a great Tuesday! It feel like Monday since I had off yesterday..
xoxo,
Megan
